I opened my door to see an attractive lady asking me if I had a few minutes to talk about my home, and was offered a free gift for my cooperation. She asked me what kind of vacuum cleaner I used, and asked me to go get it. As I was retrieving the vacuum, they welcomed themselves in. I was pretty annoyed, but she was cute, so I continued to let her talk. Within seconds, she was gone, and I was left with a gentleman who was very charming, albeit I still had no idea why he was in my house.

Then I was told I'd be receiving a free carpet cleaning for my time, and I was free to kick him out afterwards. So he went through the whole spiel, showed me my vacuum was ***, etc. I made it clear that while it was a nice product, I was not interested. Especially not for the "low, one-time price of $2,799". So we danced back and forth, at this point I was really just being polite. He continued the presentation, I am in sales, so all of this *** was pretty familiar to me. To his credit, he did a great job on his pitch. Seems like a good product.

Now here's where it gets ugly. After repeatedly saying I couldn't afford something this expensive, he calls his boss. Repeatedly, I was asked if he could use my phone to call his boss. Then, magically, his boss would authorize a lower price. First it was $1,999, then $1,499. I made it very clear at this point that I simply cannot agree to this, and that I wasn't going to get roped in. So his entire demeanor changed at this point, he opted to leave his dirt pads all over my floor, asked if he could use my phone one last time to have his boss come pick him up. So his boss comes, and welcomes himself inside. If the previous guy's sales pitch was aggressive, this guy's was rabid. He goes through the same talking points I've been droning through for the past 2 hours, and then, because I was "the 100th customer today", I would get an *amazing* deal of $799, or $30/mo.

At this point, I had to basically tell them I was fed up and wanted to go to bed(8:45 at night) to get them to finally leave. I had to dispose of the dirt pads myself, by the way. They proceeded to hang out outside of my place for the next 30 minutes, loudly carrying on while waiting for their ride to come pick them up.

Time to buy a Dyson.

I had a terrible experience with Kirby salesman, a young girl comes to door, says she's trying to market a new store, she practically lets her self in, before I know it a young man comes in with vacuum, starts cleaning my couches, floors, mattresses, going throughout my house, (I'm babysitting by the way) trying to attend to children and watching this guy, I was somewhat traumatized, so now 2 1/2 hours later, I get talked into buying vacuum from 1600.00 to 600.00. I did like the product (I think) didn't have time to think, so I go to bed going over what happened, I felt coerced, so I decide to cancel, so far two days later, unable to find anyone to answer phones, no message machines, I 'm trying email, DO NOT allow these people in your house, especially living alone, there must be a way to prevent this from happening to someone else.

Your story is very common. Anyone researching, after you read the complaints here, head over to consumeraffairs. There is over a thousand postings there alone.

The Kirby Company certainly does not condone such behavior from individuals who appear to be salespeople or โ€œdealersโ€ for an independent distributor of our products. As you may be aware, Kirby systems are sold through independently owned and operated businesses or โ€œdistributorships.โ€ Dealers for these distributorships then sell our cleaning systems door-to-door

Although the Kirby systems are sold through independent distributorships, we definitely want to investigate your comments, as will the owner of the distributorship represented in your home.

Please contact our Consumer Relations Department at 800-494-8586, M-F 8 am - 5 pm, EST.

We look forward to speaking with you.

You do *** all about it!!! Thousands of complaints online about the sales tactics and all you people do is say "Oh, that's not our fault".

You refuse to take any responsibility.

PATHETIC! I will NEVER buy a Kirby!
